ESMA Knowledge and Competence Guidelines
Refreshed March 2024 | CPD time: 1 Hour 15 Minutes
The European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) Knowledge and Competence Guidelines are regulatory guidelines that outline the knowledge and skills that staff providing investment advice must possess to provide suitable advice to their clients, and were established to promote greater investor protection. The Guidelines promote greater convergence in the knowledge and competence of staff providing investment advice or information about financial instruments, structured deposits, investment services or ancillary services to clients, and allow competent authorities to assess the adequacy of the compliance with such requirements. Their issuance has also contributed significantly to the implementation of MiFID II. This module will focus on the key elements of the Guidelines with explanation, interpretation and case studies.
